Confusion About The Hunt and Another Prize Opportunity
So, there is some confusion about the Easter egg hunt that I’ve heard from a few people. Please click here for information on the hunt and what we’re talking about here. The confusion is coming from those who want to know: What are the clues, hints, questions?
This isn’t that kind of contest. I could do a pop quiz kind of contest that might include some easter egg type knowledge, and I might do one of those in the future, but this is not that.
Easter eggs just ARE. I’ve also had people ask me how many easter eggs there are. To be honest, I don’t remember. But I know them when I see them because I wrote the books.
If I tell you there are X number of Easter eggs and you find X number, I may have left one out. I know what an easter egg is, though, so just make your list and I’ll count the actual easter eggs. If in doubt, include it. It can’t hurt if you are wrong about one. I’m not marking anybody off for wrong answers.
I’m also not trying to stress you out, LOL. The purpose of the hunt is to bring in new readers who maybe have thought about buying something of mine but it was one of those “when I get around to it” things, but now everything is on sale and there is a contest and a Kindle Fire… so maybe that motivates people “now” rather than “later.” Which I like.
And also the purpose is to re-engage the readers in the series because we’ve been away from it for awhile, and we’re about to have The Catalyst out and I want people to be re-excited and re-energized about the world and ready for the next book.
And… it’s fun to give stuff away to fans/readers who participate and engage with me. This is just another way to participate and engage. And remember if you turn in a single Easter egg (make ANY attempt whatsoever), or share the contest with others, you get entered for a smaller prize… a signed copy of The Catalyst (or a prize of equal value… if you win, we will discuss.) And I’m giving away 10 of those.
The Kindle Fire is the brass ring for those more serious about the hunt. But only do it if it’s fun for you. I want you to have fun. And then… while you’re having fun, you might win a Kindle Fire, bonus.
So again… what is an Easter Egg? One of those who asked me in email, I responded with the following:
There are no questions, clues, or hints. You’re just supposed to read, and then when you notice something small in one book that was in another book… you jot that down. It’s an easter egg. Like… did you ever watch Buffy? They had easter eggs all the time… one of them was… in season seven they made a reference to Xander’s hyena possession… the hyena possession happened in season 1. People who hadn’t seen the hyena episode wouldn’t really “get” what that was about, but it wouldn’t jump out at them as a problem either… just some random thing that was said. So when the hyena possession is mentioned in season 7, referencing back to the episode in season 1… that’s an easter egg. The people who saw the hyena episode in season 1, get what’s being talked about.
That’s why there are no hints, clues, or questions because easter eggs just ARE.
So that’s that. Now, there is one more opportunity/way for you to gain an entry for a signed copy of The Catalyst… and that is, putting this graphic on your blog/website with a link back to my main page zoewintersbooks.com (since I have the contest page stickied to the top):
You can make it a little smaller for a sidebar if necessary. Thank you to the lovely Elaine (sorry I don’t know your last name) who made this graphic for one of my awesome book reviewers… and then it was shared with me to share with you. I’m sending her two digital books of mine of her choice (either pen name) as soon as the grapevine gets ahold of her to let her know.
